Hydroelastic Investigation on A Pile Breakwater Integrated with A Flexible Tail for Long-Wave Attenuation

Abstract A novel concept of wave attenuator is proposed for the defense long waves, through integrating a flexible tail to lee-side surface pile breakwater. The works as floating blanket made up hinged blocks, whose scale and stiffness can be easily adjusted. two-phase-flow numerical model established based on open-source computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code OpenFOAM investigate its attenuation performance. Incompressible Navier—Stokes equations are solved in domain, where an additional solid mechanics (CSM) solver embedded describe elastic deformation tail. coupling structural full manner allow assess variation along deforming body. accuracy validated comparison with experimental data. Effects performance breakwater investigated systematically. Dynamic behaviours examined, characteristics natural frequency identified. For safety reasons, loads impacting main body stress distribution over specially examined. It found that both length affect wave-attenuation proper choice greatly improve long-wave defending capability maximum restrained optimising
